What to Do if Someone Breaks into Your House

Take Inventory of Your Valuables
Once police have allowed you back into your home, go through your house room by room and take stock of any items that may be missing or property that is damaged. Try to take note of any makes, models, or serial numbers from any items missing or damaged if available.

Call your insurance company to submit a claim. Some companies will send a claim adjustor to look at your home, which will need to happen before you clean up. Other insurance companies require a call to be placed within 24 hours of the burglary happening, so it is very important to prioritize this.
Depending on what was stolen, you may need to replace items in your house or in your wallet. If any financial information has been taken, call your bank immediately to have them freeze the affected accounts and monitor activity.
If a passport or driver’s license was taken, you will need to apply for replacements and report them as stolen.
Clean Up
Go through your home thoroughly and try to put everything back where it was. Ask friends and family for support, as cleaning up the mess of a burglar may be upsetting for you.
